We headed over to Whitefish today—a small town about 25 miles from where we are staying at West Glacier KOA Resort. It was recommended several times by various people as a place to see. The wooden beams, window boxes, and hanging flowers reminded me of Burlington, VT (but much smaller) mixed with some Colorado mountain towns. It had what I imagine some great restaurants, but with the girls not vaccinated we were pleased with our outside lunch at the beer garden. It was our first time eating out with the girls since Covid began and felt really nice. After lunch, and a walk around town we headed to the beach at Whitefish Lake and were pleasantly surprised that there was a dog beach. The day was probably a little long as the girls began to turn into little gremlins as we left the rocky beach and we had to take away the pool and other amenities at the campground. Everyone went to bed early.
Things we did:
- Went to Bonsai Brewing Project for lunch and got 2 flights. The whiskey and bourbon barreled beers definitely had a kick to them! Good burgers and chips and an inclusive environment for our kiddos and dog.
- Headed to walk the “cute” downtown
- Walked toward the Whitefish Railroad Depot to take a look at the trains (Anna is loving all the trains we are seeing!)
- Went in a toy store, a quilting store, and ice cream shop: the exciting flavor of the day was Grizz Tracks (caramel ice cream, chocolate chips, chocolate shavings, and cookie dough chunks)
- Sat at a train crossing and watched the train cross (oil maybe?) and caboose. The girls got excited every time we heard a “toot tooooot!”
- Went to Whitefish Lake State Park to swim at their dog beach
- I got bit by a horsefly
- The girls borrowed some little boats from some guys picnicking on the beach (thanks guys!) Keith and I took turns trying to keep them rowing out into the open water
- Went to a Super 1 Foods (something about these parts — they don’t like Plain yogurt ;/)
- Booked a one-nighter @ Rawlins KOA in Rawlins, Wyoming
I like the window art!
